The trailer featured the main, original characters of the Dragon Ball series such as Goku, Piccolo, Vegeta, Frieza, Gohan, and many more. It showcased the most iconic scenes and locations from the original DB series, for example, Vegeta’s defeat, Krillin’s demise and the scene when Goku became Super Saiyan for the very first time.

Although this bit is common knowledge, we also know that the game will showcase some scenes from before the Dragon Ball Z series. It has a fight between Goku and Piccolo which evidently happened before Dragon BallZ. It appears that a large part of the game is about the events that occurred before DBZ. Bandai has something to say about the game itself. To quote them, the game is supposed to be “recounting the beloved story of DBZ likes never before”.

Bandai also confirmed some information about who will be the developer behind the game. It is CyberConnect2. Yes, the same CyberConnect2 which were behind the making of the super popular Naruto: Ultimate Ninja series. So, we can expect a similar style of gameplay.

If we can remember correctly, there has been Dragon Ball games before retelling the Dragon Ball characters’ story. For example, there was an RPG game called Attack of the Saiyans which was based on Vegeta’s story. Therefore, this is not an entirely new concept on their part. Apart from this, there are other ongoing games by DB franchise, viz., Xenoverse 2 and FighterZ. Both of these games have an entirely different plot line and gameplay so it is kind of mysterious why the Dragon Ball franchise is going back to the same storyline as their anime.
