They say there is a great woman behind every great man, and that applies to Chi-Chi from Dragon Ball Z. She is Goku’s wife and the princess of Fire Mountain.
She is the mother of Gohan and Goten and has been part of the legendary Akira Toriyama manga and anime series since the beginning. She’s married to the world’s friendliest Saiyan, which is an adventure itself.
She may not be the most beloved supporting characters in Dragon Ball Z, but there is a lot more to her than meets the eye. Up next we’re going to tell you more about Chi-Chi.
Overview of Chi-Chi’s Character
Chi-Chi is the princess of Fire Mountain and the daughter of the Ox-King. She was born on November 5 in 737. Her birth was soon followed by the death of her mother in the same year.
When she was two years old, she and her father got stuck outside of their castle when a fire spirit was unleashed on it. That castle was then called Fire Mountain. She is a well-trained martial arts fighter.
She marries Goku later and becomes Gohan’s and Goten’s caring mother. She was first introduced as a timid and fearful girl but later became a strong and powerful character in her evolution into womanhood.
Here growing strength often leads to her having angry outbursts throughout the season. Despite this, she also expresses her deep love and devotion to Goku and their sons.
Chi-Chi is a slender, attractive, light-skinned woman, with big black eyes and long, straight, black hair with square bangs. The appearance of Chi-Chi as a child included a blue bikini, pink boots and gloves, a green cape, and her pink helmet.
This appearance was preserved by Chi-Chi until the Piccolo Jr. Saga. It was then changed to a blue cheongsam (Chinese traditional dress) and red trousers, bracelets, shoes, white socks, and a red sash.
She also wore her hair in a ponytail during this appearance. Chinese dresses and martial arts uniforms comprise most of the garments that Chi-Chi is seen wearing in her adulthood.
Chi-Chi’s standard clothes were a purple dress, which had an orange fabric attached to the top, and a yellow sash. In the appearance, her hair was wrapped in a bun but on the sides, she still had her hair down.
Chi-Chi displayed superhuman abilities as a child, as she was able to chase down a dinosaur and throw her sword with sufficient force to attack and kill it. However, she was knocked out by Yamcha’s attack.
She managed to be an equal match for Goku during her sparring date with him, proving she was incredibly strong for a human child.
After she survived the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament in a battle with Goku, she was recognized as the toughest human woman on the planet.
Chi-Chi was capable of holding her own against Gohan when she was affected by the Black Mist. That mist turned her into a ruthless warrior, while Gohan probably held back to avoid harming his mom, she put up a huge fight.
Chi-Chi may not be one of the Dragon Ball franchise‘s strongest characters, nor is she one of the most popular. Admittedly, she is one of the many peripheral characters of Dragon Ball Z, but Chi-Chi is the reason the children exist.
And occasionally, the writers have provided her with a storyline of her own like with the Black Mist. She’s is a good representation of a strong female need that we need to see more of in anime series.
