So, what does ‘Ara Ara’ mean? Does it show any se*ual intention?

The word is used to hint at a mature female character’s se*ual intentions for a younger male, who is generally below the age of consent; this is the definition most so-called otakus actually thinks the word has. This is not completely wrong. We know it is mostly used by the female characters to show the gentle utterance, intending mild surprise.

Ara Ara

The word is used by many female anime characters which shows gentle and polite interjection, signifying mild surprise. It does not have a clear definition. However, it is similar to ‘oh’ or ‘my’ in the English language. In a similar sense, the word ‘ara ara’ means ‘my, my’ or perhaps  ‘Oh… my’, yet the meaning might change depending on the circumstances and the tone in which the line is presented.

Another example is the light novel ‘Date a Live’ and it’s anime series. In this light novel, the character Kurumi often uses this catchphrase.
